WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Head coach Deirdre Kane announced four players who have signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at West Chester University next winter. The 23-year mentor of the Golden Rams is excited about the possibilities of this foursome.

Meghan Kerrigan, Alex Lennon, Ambreelinne Ortman and Carly Strickland all committed to West Chester University and join a team that went 20-9 a year ago and finished tied atop the PSAC East standings with Millersville. The Golden Rams reached the PSAC semifinals before bowing to No. 16 Indiana (Pa.) in the conference tournament.

“I am very pleased with our recruiting class,” Kane commented. “We were looking for post players and forwards, and I think we definitely addressed that need. We only brought in one guard, but the coaching staff feels she will be a great addition from an outstanding local program.”

Kerrigan is the local product and the only guard among the four incoming signees. She will battle a talented and deep backcourt for the defending PSAC East co-champions, who return second team all-league selection Megan Stewart at the point. Kerrigan led Downingtown East to a 28-3 record and a ranking of sixth in the state last winter.

Lennon comes from The Shipley School where she was a 1,000-point scorer during her high school career. Both Lennon and Strickland bring a lot of height to the Golden Rams frontcourt. Lennon ranked fourth in the state of Pennsylvania in scoring among forwards, averaging 16.5 points per game last winter. She topped 30 points in a game twice last year for The Shipley School.

Joining Lennon in the frontcourt in this year’s class are Ambreelinne Ortman and Carly Strickland. Both are highly touted recruits, who will battle the incumbents up front for playing time. They will add depth off the bench to a talented group.
