BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – West Chester freshman gymnast Kaley LaFleur was named the co-rookie of the year, but host University of Bridgeport successfully defended its team title at the ECAC Division II Women’s Gymnastics Championships Saturday afternoon.
Bridgeport scored a 192.350 to claim its second straight conference crown. Southern Connecticut State was runner up with a 186.050 while West Chester was third with a 180.125. Golden Rams head coach Barbara Cordova was named the co-head coach of the year at the conclusion of the tournament as well.
LaFleur finished fourth in the all-around competition with a total score of 36.875. Teammate Alli Aquila was fifth with a 36.375. Bridgeport gymnast Miranda Der was the all-around champion at the conference meet with a 38.55.
West Chester’s best event was once again the vault where all five competitors registered scores better than 9.0. The Golden Rams total for the vault was 46.475. Aquila tied for fifth individually with a score of 9.5. Melissa Voskian scored a 9.3 while teammates Felicia Massaro and Alison Mitrosky scored identical 9.25.
LaFleur was sixth on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.025. She placed 11th on the floor exercise with a 9.375. Aquila scored a 9.2 on the floor.
Bridgeport teammates Lorraine Galow and Emily Repko were named co-athletes of the year. Galow was the all-around champion at ECACs in 2009.
