A three-time letterwinner on the pitch for West Chester University’s men’s soccer squad, Killen played a major role on the school’s 1961 NCAA Championship team and helped the Golden Rams to three straight national semifinal appearances during his collegiate career. He was voted the NCAA Tournament most valuable player in 1961 and finished his career with an All-America certificate in 1962. West Chester’s men’s soccer teams posted a 30-4-2 record during Killen’s career, including the 1961 national title and a spot in the 1960 national championship game.
Upon graduation, the Upland, Pa., native earned a spot on Team USA for the 1962 Pan Am Games and was picked as an alternate for the 1964 Olympic Team. Killen coached men’s soccer collegiately for 44 years, 21 of those seasons at MacMurray College in St. Louis, Mo., before retiring last year. At MacMurray, he posted over 200 wins and guided that institution to three NCAA Tourament appearances. He was named the 1991 NSCAA Midwest Region coach of the year and earned the 1997 Chyzowych Award, given to an individual for lifetime achievement and dedication to advancing the game of soccer.
In 2006, Killen had bestowed upon him U.S. Youth Soccer’s Ron Wigg Award for his work and development of youth soccer in the United States.
