Arguably the best men’s tennis player in West Chester University history, Cliff Owen dominated opponents for the Golden Rams for four seasons. His career produced an untouchable 83-3 record as his teams averaged 14 wins per season. During his four years, the Golden Rams never lost a match to any of its sister institutions in what is today known as the PSAC.

In fact, Owen’s mark is even more impressive when considering many of West Chester’s opponents at that time consisted of today’s Division I schools. In 1941, he was selected as the captain of the Golden Rams.

A long-time board member and tournament director in the Middle States Tennis Association, Owen made his mark at the professional level as well. He claimed 32 sectional and 25 national rankings during his career, and he served as the prestigious Eastern States Senior Tournament director for over 20 years.
