One of the finest distance runners to come out of West Chester University’s women’s cross country and track & field programs, Lisa Young was a five-time All-American and two-time PSAC women’s cross country individual champion during her stellar running career. Young earned one All-America certificate in cross country (1983) and the other four in track & field (1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984). She was a four-time national qualifier with West Chester’s harriers while holding the distinction as the track & field program’s first four-time All-American. Her senior year, Young hit the trifecta by capturing the PSAC individual title, NCAA regional individual crown and the PAIAW individual championship – setting a course record on each occasion. She captained both the women’s cross country and track & field teams her senior season (1983-84).
Young was named WCU’s most outstanding female athlete in 1984 and was the recipient of the Henry L. Wilder Memorial Award given to the most outstanding senior collegiate athlete by the Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania State Hall of Fame. In 1995, Young became an official member of the Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania State Hall of Fame upon her induction into their hallowed halls.
