When asked to describe Marcia Johnson's accomplishments and contributions to field hockey, few could have said it better than Marcia herself. To quote her humble reaction on being selected for the Hall of Fame, : "...it shows that I participated in an assortment of activities with some accomplishments to be proud of. I was lucky to have the ability to play field hockey and to have the desire to excel. Coaching, teaching, and promoting something that you love is exciting, rewarding, and fun." Enough said.
Marcia's commitment to field hockey spans over thirty years. One of the most dominant players during the 60's, Marcia was no stranger to national recognition. An All-American in college, she was known for her ability to dominate play in the defensive area of the field. From 1965 through 1972, Marcia spent many years as a Reserve or First Team National Player of the United States. In 1971, Marcia played in the World Cup in Aukland, New Zealand. But Marcia did not limit her contributions to field hockey as just a player. After spending eight years at Twin Valley High School as a teacher and coach where they were Division Champs in 1971, Marcia continued her involvement with field hockey for fourteen more years as an official. Marcia is currently serving as an assistant field hockey coach at Boyertown High School.
Between coaching, officiating, and playing, Marcia somehow manages to run field hocley clinics, start an overnight field hockey camp (TIPAMA, founded with Tina Sloan Green and Pat Pope Bollinger), and co-founder the West Chester State College Alumni Field Hockey Team with Tina.
