One of the most magical seasons in West Chester Women’s Lacrosse history culminated with the school’s second national championship in Houston, Texas, with a 13-12 victory over C.W. Post at the NCAA DII Festival. Junior Jackie Baker scored a game-high four goals and assisted on another while freshman Claire Grimwood posted a hat trick and finished with seven points, and senior Steph Kienle registered a hat trick and four points in the win. Mary Beth Green made nine saves in goal and helped West Chester hold off a furious late rally by C.W. Post.
The Golden Rams finished 20-1 that year, set an NCAA record for most goals scored in a single season (424), which still stands today, and won their final 20 games, following an opening-season loss, to claim the national title. Kienle broke her own NCAA Division II record for points in a single season with 143. She was the Division II national attacker of the year and graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Head coach Ginny Martino collected her second national championship, after leading West Chester to its first lacrosse title in 2002.
