Men’s Swimming Goes For A Dozen At PSAC Championships

2010 PSAC Men's & Women's Swimming Championships Tournament Central

Mechanicsburg, Pa.
– Few schools in the country have pasted together a dynasty similar to West Chester University’s dominance in men’s swimming in the PSAC. This weekend, the Golden Rams’ swim team looks to capture its 12th consecutive men’s title and 23rd overall at the 2010 PSAC Men’s Swimming Championships at Cumberland Valley High School.

The PSAC Men’s & Women’s Swimming Championships are slated to take place Thursday, Feb. 18 through Sunday, Feb. 21. Tickets to the 2010 PSAC Men’s Swimming Championships can be purchased at the gate upon arrival at Cumberland Valley High School. A single-session ticket to the preliminary rounds is $5 while a single-session ticket to the finals is $7. Spectators can purchase an all-session pass, good for the entire weekend, for $35. Students from PSAC member institutions are admitted free when they present their valid school ID. All other students can purchase single-session passes for $2 and an all-session pass for $10.

Five individuals and all five relay teams return to defend their titles for the Golden Rams this weekend. Peter Madueno and Max Bernardes are double champions looking to defend titles while three of the four swimmers that made up the championship relay teams in the 200-yard medley and 800 freestyle return to strengthen those events.

Phil Luzny is a returning champion in the 100 butterfly while Kenny McCormick is a returning champ in the 200 individual medley. Brendan Fanslau won the 50 free a year ago as well.

Another championship by the Golden Rams would pull them within one of Clarion’s conference record of 24 team titles. Since 1967, only Shippensburg has won a PSAC men’s swimming team title other than Clarion or West Chester. The Raiders captured titles in 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1994.

East Stroudsburg University is serving as host institution this year. The link above will take you to “Tournament Central” for the 2010 Men’s Swimming Championships. There you will find directions to Cumberland Valley High School, meet schedule and results, past champions and history of PSAC swimming and a photo gallery.
