LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University shortstops Nick Spisak and Samantha Ingersoll were each named PSAC Spring Top 10 Award winners it was announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.
Both seniors produced outstanding seasons on the diamond. Spisak was a first team all-league selection while Ingersoll was the Eastern Division player of the year and a second team All-American.
They are the third and fourth West Chester University student-athletes honored by the conference in its seasonal Top 10 Awards. The four Top 10 Award winners are the most in an academic school year for West Chester University, tying the mark set in 2001-02.
Spisak started in all 53 games for the Golden Rams diamondmen. He rapped out 64 hits, including 15 doubles, one triple and eight home runs. He knocked in 40 runs and scored 64 times. Spisak had 19 multiple-hit games, including a nine-game hitting streak. He registered an on-base percentage of .445, a slugging percentage of .530 and a fielding percentage of .907. Spisak also had a great semester in the classroom where he retained his 3.84 cumulative GPA in non-degree, baccalaureate completion.
Ingersoll, a first team All-PSAC East and first team All-Atlantic Region selection, appeared in the top 10 of four offensive categories in the NCAA this season and led the PSAC in seven offensive categories. Ingersoll broke eight single season school records at West Chester. She was an integral part in helping West Chester achieve a national ranking (22nd for two weeks) for the first time in school history. Ingersoll maintained a 3.91 cumulative GPA in Psychology in the classroom despite participating in two sports. The all-star shortstop was also a member of West Chester’s volleyball team in the fall.
Ingersoll was voted to the, Daktronics Inc., first team All-America softball team. She was also named to the NFCA Division II Atlantic Region first team and NFCA All-America second team.
Women’s soccer co-captain Jessica Bennett was a PSAC Fall Top 10 Award winner while women’s swimming All-American, Kristen Montello, was a PSAC Winter Top 10 Award winner. All of the seasonal Top 10 Award winners (15 men; 15 women) move on to the PSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year ballot, which will be conducted in July. Kim Rochon in 2000-01 is the only former West Chester University student-athlete to be named PSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Top 10 Awards, selected by the PSAC’s sports information directors, recognize those student-athletes who have distinguish themselves in the classroom, as well as in their particular arena of competition. The conference designates Top 10 Award winners after each of the sports three seasons: fall, winter and spring.
To be a candidate for the Top 10 Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (as of Fall 2009 awards) and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
