LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University's men's soccer squad was picked to finish eighth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) preseason coaches' poll, it was announced Friday morning.
West Chester (4-9-2, 1-5-2 PSAC) is coming off a disappointing 2009 campaign in which it finished in fourth place in the Eastern Division. The PSAC has returned to its single division format after two years of splitting up into East and West divisions.
Mercyhurst was picked to win the conference title on the strength of seven first-place votes. Millersville was picked second with two first-place votes, and East Stroudsburg rounded out the top three spots, tying with Slippery Rock, who received the final first-place vote.
California (Pa.) was slated fifth, Gannon sixth, Bloomsburg seventh, and Lock Haven and Shippensburg behind West Chester in ninth and 10th, respectively. West Chester opens its 2010 campaign on Saturday, Sept 4 at home against Goldey-Beacom as the Golden Rams host the WCU Tournament inside Farrell Stadium.
