Men's Golf Places Second; Freshman Lefever Wins Individual Crown

MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. - West Chester freshman golfer Connor Lefever won the individual title, leading the Golden Rams to a second-place finish at the 2010 Burger King/Ohio Valley Invitational held at the Woodbridge Plantation Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.

West Chester shot a two-round total 580 for the season-opening tournament, surpassing day one leader Indiana (Pa.) while staying ahead of all 10 teams from the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC). Clarion, who entered the day in third place, won the team title with a score of 575. The Golden Eagles shot a 279 Tuesday to take the title.

The Golden Rams actually improved upon their day one score of 292, shooting a 288 as a team on Tuesday. Lefever, who entered the final day in second place, carded a 67, giving him a tournament low, 5-under par 137. No West Chester golfer shot under par for a tournament all of last year.

Sophomore Griffith Basehore tied for eighth individually with a 146. That bested his career low for a 36-hole event by one stroke. He shot a 147 at the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational last October.

Doug Brooks shot a 148 and Michael Ashcraft a 149. Mike Flatley signed for a 153.

West Chester will be back in action next Sunday and Monday at the Hal Hanson Invitational in Clarion, Pa.
