CLARION, Pa. – Three West Chester University football players were named to the third team of the 2010 Don Hansen Division II All-Super Region 1 squad. Senior co-captains Dan DePalma and Travis Ford-Bey were joined by junior punter Chris Hill on the third-team squad.
DePalma finished his senior season leading the Golden Rams in receiving with 50 receptions for 962 yards and nine touchdowns. He averaged 19.2 yards per catch and 96 yards receiving per game. He also returned three punts and four kickoffs for West Chester last fall. DePalma was a first team All-PSAC selection after the year ended.
Ford-Bey was the defensive captain of the Golden Rams, who led West Chester in three defensive categories from his position on the end. One of the most feared pass rushers in the PSAC, Ford-Bey led the Rams in tackles for a loss (8.5), sacks (4.0) and QB hurries (3). He picked up 3.5 of those sacks in a win over Millersville, falling just .5 sacks shy of tying the school’s single-game record.
Hill enjoyed a spectacular fall campaign, leading the PSAC in punting with an average of 41.4 yards per boot. He was the only punter in the conference to average better than 40 yards per punt. Hill was named second team All-PSAC for his efforts last season. His career average of 39.7 yards per punt ranks third all-time at WCU.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to the national ballot from which the 2010 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be selected later this month.
Two-time Harlan Hill Trophy runner-up Zach Amedro (West Liberty) and 2010 Gene Upshaw Award winner Brandon Fusco (Slippery Rock) headline a talented All-Super Region 1 Team.
