West Chester Splits Doubleheader With UMass-Lowell

FLEMINGTON, N.J.
- Bob Stumpo hit two home runs and knocked in five runs to lead West Chester University to a doubleheader split with UMass-Lowell at Diamond Nation Sunday afternoon. The Golden Rams fell, 11-8, in game one, but came back for a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.

West Chester (10-3) saw its seven-game win streak come to a close in the opener. Reliever Joe Opalka gave up six earned runs in 3.2 innings of relief work. Dave Stieg (0-1) started and lasted just 2.1 innings and suffered the loss. He allowed five runs, four of them earned, on five hits. He struck out three and walked two. Chris Ott finished up, pitching three innings and yielding one run on five hits. He struck out three.

Stumpo hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning while Nick Spisak and Christian Cox each added a solo shot. Charlie Kelly collected three hits (3-for-4) as well in the loss. Stumpo finished 1-for-3 with four RBI. He also hit a sacrifice fly in the game.

In the nightcap, Kyle Orensky, Matt Baer and Stumpo each hit a two-run home run, and Joe Wendle added a solo shot, accounting for all seven runs in the win. Spisak sprayed two more hits in the second game, finishing with four in the doubleheader.

Carmen Daddario picked up the win in relief. He went five innings and allowed four runs on four hits while striking out four. Jordan Lehman started and lasted two innings. He yielded two earned runs on three hits and struck out three.

West Chester is scheduled to play Philadelphia University at home at Serpico Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
