NCAA Softball Game With Lock Haven Postponed; Will Resume Saturday

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - West Chester University's NCAA Tournament opener against Lock Haven was postponed on Friday afternoon at Lilley Field on the campus of California (Pa.) University. The game will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. with WCU leading, 7-1, in the top of the fourth inning with two outs and a runner on second base.

The first rain delay originally postponed action in the third inning. That stoppage lasted exactly 30 minutes. The two teams took the field and tried to continue. However, another cell of storms hit western PA at 3:16 p.m., and officials had to stop the game once again. About 10 minutes after 6 p.m., officials came to the conclusion that continuation of the tournament game would not be possible until Saturday morning.

The first-round game will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday morning with the eventual winner advancing to take on Cal, who defeated Chowan, 13-0, in five innings in the first game of the day Friday. The eventual loser will drop into the loser's bracket and take on Chowan later in the afternoon.

West Chester's Kim Murl hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the first, and Megan Kelly hit a bases-loaded two-run double in the third to highlight the Golden Rams' first four innings.
