Box Score QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - Gannon scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie and went on to defeat No. 25 West Chester University in a PSAC Tournament contest Friday afternoon at Veterans Park.
Gannon (28-12) had its first six batters of the seventh inning reach base safely, including two players who hit home runs, as the Golden Knights put the game between the last two unbeatens in the double-elimination tournament. West Chester (40-12) drops into the loser's bracket and must win three games on Saturday to claim its first PSAC championship in softball. The Rams quest begins at 11 a.m. against California (Pa.). A win over the Vulcans would propel West Chester into the championship final against Gannon where it would take two wins for the Rams to claim the title.
West Chester erased a 2-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, right after Gannon had take that 2-0 lead in the top half. Erin Whitman provided the big blow with a bases-loaded triple.
Micaela McSpadden and Madison Kelly were both 2-for-3 in the game.
Freshman left-hander Amanda Houck (19-5) suffered the loss, throwing four innings and surrendering seven runs, five of them earned, on seven hits. She walked two and struck out four. Fellow freshman Brooke Harner threw two innings. She gave up one run on two hits. Junior Katie Erb threw one scoreless frame, allowing a pair of hits.
