Season Highs Propel Golden Rams To Win Over SCSU

Meet Results

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University's women's gymnastics established season highs on the balance beam and floor exercise, which led to an overall season-high score, as the Golden Rams topped visiting Southern Connecticut State University, 194.35-192.25, inside Hollinger Field House on Senior Day Saturday.

West Chester (15-7) scored a 48.8 on the beam and 48.85 on the floor in the final two rotations to pull out the win over So. Conn. State, which was putting up season highs as well.

"It was a good senior day," WCU head coach Barb Cordova said. "That was our focus coming into the meet. We wanted to do this for the four seniors."

The Golden Rams scored better than 48 in all four events, topping 48.8 twice. That will help West Chester in its quest to qualify for U.S. nationals as a team.

"We are right there with three other teams," Cordova revealed. "So, we will just have to wait and see. But, this was the type of meet (the coaching staff) was hoping for heading into ECAC's next weekend."

West Chester took the top four spots on the vault with freshman Jessica Meakim (Downingtown, Pa.) topping the field with a 9.75. Senior teammates Meghan Chan (Northvale, N.J.) and Rachel Blair (Telford, Pa.) tied for second with a 9.7 while junior Lindsey Mathis (Waldorf, Md.) was fourth with a 9.65.

The Golden Rams also swept the top three spots on the uneven bars with junior Myranda Marshall (Lancaster, Pa.) winning with a score of 9.775. Freshman Melanie Wojewoda (Amelia, Ohio) was second with a 9.75 while Chan placed third with a 9.7.

Chan won the balance beam with a score of 9.8 while teammate Sarah Boyd (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was tied for second with a 9.775.

Meakim pulled out her second win of the meet on the floor exercise with a 9.825. Junior Cassie Hageman (Carlisle, Pa.) was second with a 9.8.

West Chester will travel to New Haven, Conn., next weekend for the ECAC Championships at Southern Connecticut State.
