Sperone had a huge week for West Chester, which included a complete-game, nine-inning victory over No. 15 Millersville on Saturday afternoon. Sperone started his week pitching for West Chester in the Bill Giles Championship game vs Wilmington inside Citizens Bank Park. The sophomore entered in the eighth inning and delivered a crucial shutdown inning after the Golden Rams had just come back in the top half of the inning to tie the score at 8-8 after the Wildcats stretched their lead to 8-6 in the bottom half of the seventh. Sperone was nearly perfect in this half inning, allowing just one baserunner via an intentional walk while using 13 pitches to get through the potent Wildcat lineup. Sperone saved his best outing of the week for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Millersville. Against the 15th-ranked Marauders, who entered the week boasting one of the top offensive units in the PSAC, Sperone was brilliant, going the distance (9.0) on the mound, scattering four hits and one run while striking out eight to earn the victory and allow WCU to pick up a sweep of the Marauders. In this contest, Sperone surrendered his first hit of the afternoon in the second inning but did not yield another until the first batter in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Sperone worked around this early baserunner easily to keep his shutout intact heading into the seventh. In the seventh and eighth, Sperone kept the Marauders offense quiet once again, keeping the Marauders off the scoreboard until there was one out in the ninth inning and the Marauders scratched across their first and only run of the contest. For the week overall, Sperone authored an impressive 0.90 ERA and a .118 batting average against, which was the best of anyone on the Golden Ram pitching staff this week.
