Notification to Transfer

Notification of Transfer. A student-athlete may initiate the notification of transfer process by providing his or her institution with a written notification of transfer at any time. The student-athlete's institution shall enter his or her information into the NCAA Transfer Portal within seven-consecutive calendar days of receipt of a written notification of transfer from the student-athlete.

The Process for Student-Athletes
  1. Let your coach and the WCU Compliance office know about your intentions to transfer.
  2. Fill out the Notification to Transfer form in ARMS to notify the compliance office of your intention to transfer.
  3. WCU Compliance office will place your name on the NCAA Transfer Portal within seven consecutive calendar days of receipt of this form being submitted.
  4. Once you have received confirmation from WCU Compliance office that your name has been placed on the NCAA Transfer Portal, you are permitted to speak with other institutions no matter who initiates the contact.

The Benefits for Student-Athletes
  1. Gives you more control over your decision to transfer. An institution cannot block communication between you and another institution.
  2. Prohibits current schools from blocking you from getting athletics aid at the new institution.
  3. Notification of Transfer does not constitute your voluntary withdraw from the team.
  4. Utilizes a transfer portal to identify that you've notified your school of your intentions to transfer.

The Implications for Student-Athletes
  1. Once notification of transfer is provided, your current school has the right to reduce or cancel your financial aid at the end of the academic year. An institution may not cancel your athletics aid during the period of the award based on your written notification to transfer.
  2. After notification, your original school is not obligated to let you continue participating with the team.
  3. Failure to follow the above process may result in NCAA Violations.
Notification to Transfer is now used for all DI and DII Institutions.

If you wish to transfer, please fill out the Notification to Transfer Workflow in your ARMS Workflow Launchpad.  If you’d like to utilize the one-time transfer exception, requests to be placed on the NCAA Transfer Portal and a completed educational module must be completed no later than June 15th. This information is in the ARMS workflow. This date is not applicable to graduate transfer student athletes and midyear transfer student athletes. Upon your Notification to Transfer submission and completion of the educational module, WCU is required to place you on the NCAA Transfer Portal within seven consecutive days.
