Student-Athlete Wellness




General Wellness



Overall wellness encompasses any area that focuses on life-long learning and well-being.  This could include physical and emotional fitness as well as education on alcohol and drug use, sexual health, personal health, relationship building and goal setting.  Workshops in coordination with the Office of Wellness Promotion can occur for student-athletes specifically or by cross promotion.


Sports Nutrition

Sports Nutrition at WCU Athletics encompasses education and fueling to help guide student-athletes towards making healthier food choices that will properly fuel them for their sport.  SAS works with Sports Nutrition to offer Q & A sessions, cooking classes and other educational opportunities in addition to what the Sports Nutrition area offers as part of the Sports Performance program.  The fueling program services athletic teams in providing healthy snacks at practice or competition.

Mental Health

The mental health of WCU student-athletes is of paramount importance.  To that end, the department and SAS specifically has partnered with the WCU Counseling Center to work with our athletic teams.  As well, several Rams Lets Talk group sessions are offered each semester so student-athletes can share and support each other.  Look for workshops and sessions on mindfulness, stress management, conflict resolution, etc throughout the year.
