The Part-Time Assistant Coach for Track & Field and Cross Country assists the Head Coach in all aspects of administering and operating an NCAA Division II program. The incumbent coaches assigned event groups, recruits qualified prospective student-athletes, coordinates home meet operations, and supporting the administrative functions of the program. This position requires regular afternoon, evening, and weekend availability, including travel with the team to all competitions.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills to be a positive role model and representative of the university. The person will travel extensively on both weekdays and weekends and may be expected to drive university vehicles to practices and competitions. The Assistant Coach will collaborate with other departmental staff to ensure student success.
Responsibilities include:
- Coach assigned event groups and provide technical instruction, practice planning, and competition preparation
- Develop and implement training plans in collaboration with the coaching staff
- Assist with the recruiting of prospective student athletes
- Serve in a leadership role for home meet administration, including meet operations, event management, and volunteer coordinat
- Complete NCAA compliance documentation, including required practice and recruiting records
- Assist with fundraising initiatives, camps, clinics, and alumni engagement
- Work collaboratively with athletic training, strength and conditioning, and academic support staff to promote student-athlete success
- Assume primary responsibility for assigned administrative and operational duties as delegated by the Head Coach
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach

Minimum Qualifications
-
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience coaching across multiple track and field discipline at the college level
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and mentor student-athletes
- Experience operating electronic timing systems (e.g., FinishLynx) and/or meet management software
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing & verbally, and present dynamically to a variety of constituents
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities
- Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to travel with the team, including driving team vans (15-passenger van)
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and a flexible schedule during the academic year

Preferred Qualifications
-
- Experience recruiting prospective student-athletes at the collegiate level; and/or
- Experience coordinating collegiate athletic events or home competitions; and/or
- Experience with recruiting and roster management platforms (e.g., ARMS, Teamworks, DirectAthletics, Athletic.net); and/or
- Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and compliance procedures

The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting all duties associated with successful coaching at the college level including designing, implementing, and monitoring sport specific strength and conditioning training programs for individual athletes and varsity teams.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills to be a positive role model and representative of the university.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and monitor sport specific strength and conditioning programs for varsity student athletes
- Collaborate with coaches and athletic trainers to improve team performance and reduce the risk of injury
- Coordinate with athletic trainers to develop strength and conditioning programs to support athlete rehabilitation
- Collaborate with Sports Nutrition Department to support athlete health including nutrition, body weight, and body composition
- Teach proper resistance and exercise training technique
- Teach proper running and weight training movements
- Teach Olympic style lifting
- Conduct pre-season and off-season fitness evaluations
- Support strength and conditioning facility and team schedules
- Maintain required documentation for all strength and conditioning programs
- Anticipate potential risks of injury, take measures to remove them, and, in the event of an injury, implement emergency medical procedures
- Assist in the maintenance of weight rooms, equipment, and facilities
- Train and supervise student employees and interns
- Follow and demonstrate support for all policies and regulations of West Chester University, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association including NCAA policies on banned substances
- Maintain professional certification per CSCCA and NSCA policies and regulations
- Assist with administrative duties
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
-
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with college or professional teams
- Current certification in strength and conditioning by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach Association (SCCC)
- Current certification in CPR
- Current First Aid certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a related field
- Programming experience
- Experience implementing plyometrics
- Experience with speed development and conditioning
- Experience coaching Olympic style lifts
- Experience using sports science applications such as Vald, Gymaware, and Teambuildr
- Knowledge of and conformity to NCAA policies and regulations

- Assist the Head Coach in fulfilling all responsibilities associated with successful coaching at the college level
- Identify and recruit athletically and academically qualified student-athletes
- Schedule and organize practice sessions
- Coach and demonstrate high level volleyball technical skills
- Monitor academic progress and promote student-athlete well-being
- Assist with the management of equipment, team travel, schedule, and budget
- Assist with administrative duties as assigned by the head coach
- Support alumni relations and community service events
- Organize fundraising events
- Organize and administer camps and clinics
- Video breakdown and analysis via VolleyMetrics
- Ensure program compliance with all NCAA, PSAC, and University rules and regulations, including timely completion of all compliance documentation via Teamworks and ARMS
- Travel for recruiting and competition
- Other duties as assigned
