Initial Eligibility
West Chester University strives to uphold the highest standard of integrity to comply with all national, conference and institutional rules and regulations. In order to be eligible to compete at WCU, the NCAA has specific guidelines you must follow. Below, we hope to provide you with information to educate you as a prospective student athlete and help you navigate your way through the recruiting and initial eligibility process.

Initial Eligibility for High School Prospective Student Athletes – Academic and Amateurism

Academic Requirements to be eligible to practice, compete and receive athletics aid.
 
DII requires all college-bound student athletes to meet academic standards for NCAA approved core courses, core course GPA and test scores. A college bound student athlete must meet the following requirements:

Earn 16 NCAA-approved core-course credits in the following areas:
  • Three years of English.
  • Two years of math (Algebra 1 or higher).
  • Two years of science (including one year of lab, if offered).
  • Three extra years of English, math or science.
  • Two years of social science.
  • Four additional years of English, math, science, social science, world language, comparative religion or philosophy.
  • Earn a minimum 2.2 core-course GPA.

We strongly encourage you to contact your high school counselor to ensure you are on track to meet the above requirements.

Academic Certifications and What they Mean?



Amateurism requirements to be eligible to practice, compete and receive athletics aid.

Your final amateurism certification must be “Final: Certified”. The NCAA Eligibility Center will base this certification on your sports participation questionnaire.
