Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

West Chester University Athletics is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice among all student-athletes, coaches, and staff.  The department works toward the university's mission to engage inclusively in a diverse society and keep inclusion as a goal.  Athletics provides a unique opportunity to connect with a diverse group of students and to use that connection as a way to a greater understanding of difference.

Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee

Porsche Murray, Assistant Director/Coordinator of Equal Opportunity Programs and Strategic Initiatives serves as the NCAA ADID for West Chester University.  In this role, she serves as the conduit for information related to national, local, and campus-level issues of diversity and inclusion and supports diverse and inclusive practices related to athletics.  Porsche is involved in all policy changes and initiatives related to diversity and inclusion in athletics and is also co-chair of the ADIC.  Learn more here.
 
PSAC Social Justice Alliance              PSAC - link to home

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Association assembled a task force in 2021 to promote social justice and advocate change. Their goals include increasing the diversity of administrative and coaching personnel within the conference through hiring and information access; collaboration and engagement between internal and external campus organizations; initiating programs and activities on campus to demonstrate commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion; and education including training, and tough conversations.  Assistant Coach Osagie Osunde is the representative from West Chester on the Social Justice Alliance. Learn more about the Alliance here.
 
Student-Athlete Outreach

WCU Athletes are able to take advantage of programming specifically dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion through the Student-Athlete Success (SAS) program which includes the Michael Horrocks Leadership Institute.  In collaboration with various campus partners, our student-athletes are able to engage in educational opportunities and programs specifically in the areas of racial and social justice, LGBTQ+, and women and gender equity.
