PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Host Philadelphia University put four of its five starters in double figures, handing the Rams their first win of the season, 77-58, over visiting West Chester Thursday night.
Junior transfer Ralph Hegamin posted his first double-double of the season, leading West Chester (1-2) with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. However, it was not enough to overcome the hot shooting of Philadelphia (1-5), who hit on 45 percent of its 3-point attempts (9 of 20).
Mike Dunn led the Rams with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting, including 5-for-9 from beyond the arc.
Hegamin and sophomore forward Kehinde Roberts teamed up for 20 of the squad’s 28 points in the first half, but Philadelphia still pulled out to a 37-28 advantage at the break. Roberts finished with 11 points in the game.
West Chester went on a 10-0 run early to erase a 7-1 deficit out of the gate. But, the Rams answered with a devastating 26-12 run to regain control of the contest and never look back. Dunn was particularly hurtful in the first half with 17 of his 19 on the night.
Kenneth St. George scored seven points, and freshman Nate House added seven of his own off the bench for the Golden Rams.
West Chester tries to get back on track Saturday afternoon at Hollinger Field House when the Golden Rams host PSAC West rival Slippery Rock at 3 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the women’s basketball team.
