West Chester Loses Tough One In Overtime, 2-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – In a very physical and emotional game that needed to go to an extra period, the Golden Rams’ men’s soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Slippery Rock (5-2-1), 4-1-1 PSAC, 2-1 Saturday.

West Chester’s Jason Mackel tied the game 17 minutes into the second period when he buried an unassisted goal. Excellent defense exhibited by the Golden Rams (5-3, 4-2 PSAC), and a few missed opportunities, would then force an overtime period.

Slippery Rock forward Ed Mocarsky recorded the first goal with 34:17 left to go in the first half off of an assist by Nick Christy. Jeremy Deighton sealed the victor early in the first overtime with a goal off of an assist by Toby Bowser.

Frank DeMas recorded three shots in the contest, and goaltender Justin Johnson pulled off three impressive saves on seven shots. Johnson yielded one goal before exiting. Garret Santora was called into action with 33:10 remaining in the game and recorded one save and gave up one goal.

For Slippery rock, Mocarsky and Deighton finished the day with a goal. Goaltender Greg Blum went the distance and recorded three saves.

The Golden Rams left everything on the field this day, and gave Slippery Rock their money’s worth. For the Golden Rams, they will look to get back on track, after watching its three-game win streak snapped, when they host East Stroudsburg Monday at the South Campus soccer field at 2 p.m.
