No. 9 West Chester Plays To 1-1 Tie With East Stroudsburg

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– Sarah Oswald scored with 16 minutes left in the contest to lift ninth-ranked West Chester into a 1-1 overtime tie with visiting East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon.

Oswald’s team-high 10th goal of the season came via senior Brittany Yetter’s thru ball that sent the diminutive forward in all alone on ESU goalkeeper Janine Turcio. Yetter picked up the assist in her first game since suffering a knee injury against Mercyhurst on Oct. 4. The senior midfielder missed West Chester’s last five contests.

Lynda Hicks scored in the 32nd minute for East Stroudsburg (8-5-3, 4-4-2 PSAC East).

West Chester (11-1-4, 7-0-3) is in a tie for first place with Bloomsburg in the league standings, each has 24 points, with a big matchup looming next Wednesday in Bloomsburg between the rivals. The Golden Rams’ three ties have opened the door for the Huskies, who are 8-2-0 overall in the league. WCU defeated Bloomsburg, 2-1 on Sept. 23 in West Chester.

Wednesday’s women’s soccer match between West Chester and Bloomsburg for the division title is a pre-cursor to the two institution’s football teams meeting on Saturday for the division title in that sport as well.
