MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – West Chester swept Millersville in a PSAC softball doubleheader to set a new school record for victories in a season. The Golden Rams defeated the Marauders, 2-1 and 5-2, respectively.
West Chester (29-16, 8-10 PSAC East) broke the school record for wins in a single season, topping the 1996 squad’s 28-win campaign.
West Chester scored its two runs in the top of the sixth to complete its comeback in game one. Megan Harbaugh hit a game-winning single up the middle that plated Stefani Kerbacher. Jamie McCoy stole home earlier in the frame to tie the game at 1-apiece.
Harbaugh was the hero in game two as well, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. McComb went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the 5-2 win.
Brittany Rees (2-1) picked up the win in her second start of the season. She pitched 4.2 innings and allowed six hits and two runs while walking one and striking out two. Shannon Padula recorded her second save of the season, throwing the final 2.1 innings without allowing a baserunner.
Padula (21-8) picked up the win in the opener with a complete-game effort. She retired Millersville in the bottom of the sixth after West Chester had taken its 2-1 lead. The Marauders threatened with two runners on base. But, Padula got out of the jam.
