Penn Women Swim Past West Chester, 180-120

Meet Results

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– The Golden Rams won seven of the 16 events, but visiting Penn’s depth was too much for West Chester as the Quakers handed the hosts their first dual meet loss of the season, 180-120, Friday night in a non-league women’s swimming meet at Graham Natatorium.

Danielle Ierley hit two NCAA ‘B’ cut times, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10 minutes, 32.15 seconds while finishing runner up in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.88 to pace West Chester (6-1) on the women’s side of the ledger.

Diver Heather Varas was the only other double winner for the Golden Rams, capturing both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard competitions up at Hollinger Field House. Varas scored 252.22 points off the 1m board and registered a 282.82 off the 3m board.

Erin Fischer won the 200 butterfly in 2:09.63. Jackie Borkowski took first in the 50 free (24.00), and Jillian Murphy touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke (59.88). Kristen McCabe placed first in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.72.

In all, West Chester’s swimmers hit four NCAA “B” cut times. However, the Golden Rams’ swimmers had previously qualified for nationals earlier in the season.

Friday’s competition was the final home meet for seniors Jennifer Scott and Varas. West Chester concludes its regular-season slate Saturday afternoon with a dual meet at PSAC rival Bloomsburg at 1 p.m.
