Softball Squad Splits Two Games On Sunday

CLARMONT, Fla.
- West Chester University's softball team opened up its spring break schedule with a thrilling come-from-behind win over Grand Valley State, 8-7, Sunday morning. The Golden Rams then dropped a 5-0 decision in the second game to Winona State.

Shannon Padula (2-0) picked up the win in the circle for the Rams after West Chester (2-2) rallied from a 7-0 deficit to score the winning run in the top of the seventh inning. Evelyn Anderson had the game-winning RBI in the first tilt. Anderson finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.

Erica Bechdel hit a pinch-hit double in the top of the seventh to start the game-winning rally against Grand Valley State. Jackie DiPaola, for whom Bechdel pinch hit, re-entered to run and scored on Anderson's hit.

West Chester scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game.

Padula went the distance, allowing eight hits and four walks while striking out four. Only one of the seven runs allowed was earned.

Anderson went 2-for-3 in game two's loss to Winona State. Those were the Golden Rams' only two hits of the contest.

Freshman Samantha Soprano (0-2) went the distance and suffered the loss. SHe allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out four. Four of Winona St.'s five runs were earned.
