Softball Sweeps Twinbill From Chestnut Hill

Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Shannon Padula tossed a one-hitter in game one and Samantha Soprano threw a two-hitter in the nightcap to lead West Chester to a sweep of visiting Chestnut Hill, 10-0 and 8-0, both five-inning affairs, on Tuesday afternoon.

Erin MacNamee hit a leadoff home run for the third time this season and finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored in the opener. Samantha Ingersoll also smacked her third homer of the year and finished with two RBI in the first game.

The Golden Rams (9-5) scored four in the bottom of the first and then tacked on six more, five unearned, in the fourth to shorten the game to five innings. Padula (5-2) walked one and struck out two, going the distance for the win.

Meghan Halberstadt’s two-run triple following MacNamee’s leadoff homer fueled West Chester’s four-run first inning. Woolfrey hit a sacrifice fly in the first as well.

Chestnut Hill (1-7) registered its lone hit in the top of the fourth.

In the nightcap, Ingersoll was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI and MacNamee knocked in two more runs to lead West Chester to the five-inning win. A six-run second inning did most of the damage for the Rams.

Kristin McCoy went 2-for-2 with two runs scored in the second game.

Soprano (4-3) went the distance walking two and striking out four to record her first shutout of the season. The freshman hurler has now won three of her last four decisions.

West Chester will take on Mercy College on Friday at home in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
