West Chester Softball Sweeps Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del.
– Senior left-hander Shannon Padula broke the school’s all-time strikeout record as visiting West Chester swept a doubleheader from host Wilmington Univeristy (Del.), 8-4 and 8-2, in non-league college softball action on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Padula (8-2) picked up the win in game one, striking out two batters to raise her career total to 322. She broke former teammate Adina DeHainut’s record of 321 career k’s with a strikeout in the sixth inning. Freshman Samantha Soprano (7-3) improved her personal win streak to four straight with a complete game effort in the nightcap.
 
West Chester (15-5) moved its winning streak to eight straight with the team’s fourth consecutive doubleheader sweep of a non-league opponent.

Meghan Halberstadt went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a RBI. Megan Harbaugh went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Erin MacNamee and Stef Kerbacher each stole three bases.

Padula surrendered 11 hits and four runs over 7 innings in addition to her two strikeouts. All four runs allowed came in the bottom of the fourth when Wilmington cut a 5-0 deficit down to one. However, the Golden Rams responded with two tallies in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

Evelyn Anderson went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in the nightcap. Samantha Ingersoll was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Kerbacher was 3-for-4 as well. MacNamee stole another base in game two.

West Chester travels to Bowie State Wednesday for a makeup doubleheader of its rained out twinbill on Monday.
