MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Kate Kmiencinski hit two home runs and Shannon Padula picked up both wins in a doubleheader sweep of Millersville Monday in a PSAC East softball twinbill. The Golden Rams took a 14-1 decision in five innings in the opener and a 7-1 triumph in the nightcap.
West Chester (21-7, 3-1 PSAC East) improved its win streak to four straight and have now allowed just three runs in its last four games. Millersville (18-14, 1-4) falls farther behind in the Eastern Division.
Kmiencinski finished the doubleheader 4-for-8 with six RBI, including a long ball in each of the games. Her three-run shot in the fifth highlighted a four-run frame that contributed to the mercy-rule win in game one. She also singled in a run in the first.
Erin MacNamee also homered during that four-run fifth while Samantha Ingersoll hit a three-run shot during a five-run fourth. West Chester scored a combined nine runs in the fourth and fifth to shorten the contest.
Ingersoll finished the day 3-for-8 with six RBI, including five of those RBI in game one.
Padula (12-3) tossed all five innings of the opener, allowing one run on four hits and striking out three. Twelve of the 15 Millersville outs were groundouts. In the nightcap, Padula scattered nine hits over seven innings allowing only one unearned run to cross. She walked one and struck out three more, completing her second contest.
West Chester scored six runs on seven singles in the top of the fifth to break open a 1-1 ballgame. The Golden Rams did not register an extra-base hit in the decisive stanza.
Kmiencinski’s solo shot in the top of the second knotted the score at 1-apiece.
MacNamee was 4-for-7 in the twinbill with her home run in game one and four runs scored.
West Chester continues its string of three consecutive PSAC East doubleheaders with a twinbill at home on Tuesday against preseason favorite Kutztown.
