KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Evelyn Anderson was a combined 5-for-7, but it was not enough for West Chester University to overcome ninth-ranked Kutztown in a PSAC East showdown at North Campus Field by scores of 8-5 and 8-0, respectively, on a sunny and warm Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (28-18, 6-10 PSAC East) saw its playoff hopes dealt a smashing blow by first-place Kutztown (41-8-1, 15-1).
The Golden Rams scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning of game one to tie things up at 5-5. However, the Bears responded with three in its half of the fifth off WCU lefty Shannon Padula (17-10).
Erin MacNamee and Anderson each registered three hits at the top of the Rams’ order. MacNamee legged out two doubles. However, the rest of the lineup could only muster five hits off of Monica Glomb and Mary Hoch (15-1), who picked up the win in relief.
In the nightcap, Anderson and Harbaugh each recorded a pair of hits while MacNamee posted the only other base hit in the contest that lasted just five innings.
Padula started both games. She allowed 13 earned runs in 10 innings of work.
