2009 NCAA Division II Softball Championships
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - West Chester University returns to familiar North Campus softball field on the campus of Kutztown University Friday for its 12 p.m. NCAA Atlantic Regional opening round contest against the host Kutztown Bears as the Golden Rams make their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Tickets for the regional tournament at Kuztown University are $7 for an adult day pass, $3 for a student or senior and $2 for a student younger than 12. All-tournament passes are available for $15 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.
The Golden Bears, ranked eighth in the April 29 NFCA Division II poll, is the top seed in the Atlantic-2 Region and welcome in Bloomsburg, West Virginia-Wesleyan and West Chester.
Bloomsburg (34-9), the runner-up in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament, will be the No. 3 seed and play sixth-seeded West Virginia-Wesleyan (40-13) in Game 2 of the tournament. West Virginia-Wesleyan won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title to qualify for the NCAA tournament.
KU (43-9-1) will play seventh-seeded West Chester (28-18) in Game 1 of the tournament.
The double-elimination tournament will conclude Sunday with the championship game.
Lock Haven (41-5), the PSAC champion, is hosting the other Atlantic Regional. As the No. 1 seed, Lock Haven will host eighth-seeded Bowie State (26-6) in Game 1. Bowie State won the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship to earn a bid to the NCAA tournament.
Fourth-seeded California (33-8) will play fifth-seeded Shippensburg (25-17).
