Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Heather Manorek cashed in on a perfectly-placed cross from Sarah Oswald in the 49th minute, vaulting West Chester to a 2-0 conference win over East Stroudsburg University on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at South Campus Field.
The Golden Rams (6-1, 5-1 PSAC East) extended their winning streak to five games, while recording yet another shutout of an opponent. East Stroudsburg (5-3-1, 2-2-1) finds themselves with some ground to make up on West Chester in the PSAC East standings.
With the win, West Chester downed its second top four club in the Atlantic Region. The Golden Rams entered the week ranked fifth regionally, but beat top-ranked Kutztown on Wednesday and took down No. 4-ranked East Stroudsburg Saturday.
Manorek’s tally came after a strong first half by the Rams. The team failed to connect, however, until Sarah Oswald broke free down the right hand side for a long run. Oswald then found her way around a defender before dropping a perfect cross over to Manorek over the arm of ESU goalkeeper Melissa Myers, putting the Rams up 1-0.
Jenna Arnold also scored for the Rams in the 84th minute on another great feed from Cindi Nickles.
West Chester goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardi made seven saves on her way to yet another shutout for the Golden Rams, her fifth of the season. Bernardini brought the crowd to its feet with an electrifying diving stop early in the match.
Myers made six saves for the Warriors in the loss.
The win was a total team effort for the Rams, as they refused to allow East Stroudsburg to control the flow of the game. The West Chester defense was once again stout, allowing only 11 total shots on the day.
West Chester has only allowed two goals in seven games so far this season.
The Golden Rams return to action on Wednesday on the road against Philadelphia University at 4:30 P.M.
