WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Janelle Garber scored a team-high 13 points and nine rebounds to lead West Chester to a 65-53 win over Cheyney in an important PSAC East women’s basketball matchup inside Hollinger Field House on Wednesday night.
West Chester improves to 11-5 overall and 1-2 in PSAC East. Cheyney falls to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in PSAC East.
The Golden Rams started off hot and continued its hot pace throughout the game. The Rams largest lead in the first half was eight (25-17) with 6:03 left. Cheyney was able to close the gap and go into halftime trailing, 29-23.
Also contributing for the Rams was Jillian Keefer, who had 12 points and was a perfect (6-for-6) from the foul line. The Golden Rams were excellent from the foul line, shooting 70.8 percent (17-for-24). Renata Neal scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked five shots. Bridget Carlin posted a team-high five assists and Megan Stewart recorded six steals.
Cheyney’s Angel Stephens scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the year. In the second half Cheyney was able to hang around until West Chester took Control and stretched the lead to (52-39) with 7:38 remaining in the second half.
Lutfiyya Muhammad, the reigning PSAC East player of the week, was held to a 4-for-18 shooting effort, though she did finish with 12 points. Stephanie Orji scored 13 points.
