ERIE, Pa. - Sarah Oswald deflected a shot off a Mercyhurst defender and into the goal with 4:03 left in the second overtime period to lift No. 6 West Chester to a 3-2 victory over homestanding Mercyhurst Friday afternoon.
West Chester (13-1-0, 11-1-0 PSAC) remains atop the conference standings while Mercyhurst (6-9-1, 3-8-1) came four minutes from earning a point from the No. 6 team in the country.
Oswald finished with a goal and an assist. She now leads the team with 12 tallies and 33 points on the year . Teammate Jessica Bennett also had three points with a goal and an assist Friday. It was Bennett's goal in the 71st minute that knotted things up at 2-2 and sent the game into overtime. Oswald assisted on Bennett's game-tying goal.
Lara Bodenstab scored her first goal of the season in the seventh minute of the game, just two minutes after Sara Hawksworth put Mercyhurst on top, 1-0. Hawksworth scored both of the Lakers' goals Friday.
Lyndsie Bernardini (12-1-0) made four saves in 106 minutes of action. Rachel Griepsma made eight saves.
