ERIE, Pa. – Three different players tallied a goal as the sixth-ranked West Chester University women’s soccer squad shut out host Gannon, 3-0, amidst rain drops at Gannon University on Saturday evening.
West Chester (14-1-0, 12-1-0 PSAC) remains atop the PSAC standings with a pair of road victories over the weekend. The Golden Rams topped Mercyhurst on Saturday in double overtime. Gannon falls to 4-9-3 overall and 3-8-2 in conference.
Sarah Oswald scored her team-high 13th goal of the season in the first half. Senior center midfielder Jessica Bennett added another marker in the second half, before Maddie Mitchell scored an insurance tally in the final three minutes of the game to secure the win.
Lyndsie Bernardini made three saves to pick up her 13th win of the year. Sabrina Chirco made eight saves in a losing effort for Gannon.
Bennett finished with three points, adding an assist to her second half goal as well. Jen Gangl was credited with a pair of assists. Jen Hutchinson helped out on Mitchell’s insurance tally.
West Chester returns home on Tuesday night for Senior Night at John A. Farrell Stadium against Philadelphia University at 6:30 p.m. The Golden Rams finish up regular-season play next Saturday at last-place Millersville. All West Chester has to do in that game is earn at least a tie and it will capture the regular-season title and home field advantage throughout the PSAC postseason tournament.
