Women’s Soccer Captures PSAC Regular-Season Title With Win At Millersville

Box Score

MILLERSVILLE, Pa.
- West Chester University’s women’s soccer squad clinched the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 2-0 blanking of host Millersville on chilly and cold Saturday evening at Biemesderfer Stadium.

West Chester (16-1-0, 13-1-0 PSAC East) carries a nine-game winning streak into the postseason as a result of its latest shutout over Millersville (1-16-1, 0-13-1). With the win, the Golden Rams clinch their sixth straight regular-season crown, but first under a one-division format. In each of the last five years, the PSAC has been split into an East and West Division.

West Chester will host the quarterfinals of the 2010 PSAC Women’s Soccer Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 2 against eighth-seeded Shippensburg (10-7-1, 7-7-0). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at South Campus Soccer Complex. The Golden Rams will be looking to defend the league title that it won a year ago. West Chester has captured the PSAC crown in three of the last four campaigns.

Senior Sarah Oswald scored both goals for the Golden Rams Saturday evening, running her season totals to 16 goals on the year and 40 points. Oswald moved into second place on the school’s all-time scoring charts with 144 – surpassing Julie Karcher (2003-06). Her 40 points in 2010 is a single-season high for the two-time All-American and is five points shy of the school’s single-season mark.

The shutout was the 13th of the season and 29th of sophomore goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini’s career. She tied the school’s all-time mark of 29 set by Ryan Levine (2000-03). Bernardini (15-1) made two saves in the win. Millersville’s Taylor Suskie made eight.
