CLERMONT, Fla. – West Chester scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but allowed four runs on one hit in the top of the second as Wayne State (Neb.) went on to a 5-3 victory over the Golden Rams at the NTC Spring Games Thursday.
West Chester (10-4) had its rematch with Grand Valley State rained out later in the afternoon.
Megan Harbaugh doubled home a pair of runs and Katie Kmiecinski singled home a run to put the Golden Rams on the board early. Unfortunately, West Chester hit three batters and walked three more with two outs in the top of the second as Wayne State took a 4-3 lead for good.
Brooke Muth (4-3) suffered the loss in the circle, lasting just 1.2 innings yielding one hit, but allowing four runs. She walked four and hit two of the 12 batters she faced on the day. Missy Schwartz threw the other 5.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits. She walked one, struck out three and hit two batters.
