Softball Splits Doubleheader At Holy Family

Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
- Brooke Muth tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener, but Holy Family scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie as visiting West Chester split a non-league softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 win followed by a 5-3 setback.

West Chester (12-6) scored three runs in the top of the third inning of game one and rode the right arm of junior transfer Muth (5-4) the rest of the way. Muth allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out six for her fifth win of the season.

Missy Schwartz laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt that plated one run in that productive third inning. Sam Ingersoll followed two batters later with a two-run double to put West Chester on top 3-0. Katie Kmiecinski added a RBI single in the top of the seventh for good measure.

In the nightcap, Schwartz tossed 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and walking four, before leaving with one out in the fifth to make way for Sam Soprano (4-1). Soprano allowed the two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on only one hit. She walked a batter and struck out a batter, suffering her first loss of the season.

The Golden Rams return to PSAC East play on Tuesday when they host Shippensburg in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
