WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Evelyn Anderson was a combined 5-for-7 with six runs scored and Brooke Muth picked up a complete-game win in the second game, after saving the first, to lead West Chester to a non-league sweep of Bowie State on a sunny but cold Saturday afternoon. West Chester took game one, 5-3, and easily won game two, 14-0.
West Chester (18-6) continued its torrid as the Rams have now won six in a row and eight of their last nine. Bowie State falls to 11-14 on the year.
Muth (7-4) tossed a one-hit shutout in the nightcap while striking out seven as she faced one over the minimum of batters en route to the five-inning win. She was masterful after her teammates spotted her a nine-run lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Missy Schwartz (4-0) was just as impressive in the opener. She did not allow a hit in five innings inside the circle while striking out five. She allowed one run and walked two. Samantha Soprano relieved her in the sixth and allowed a two-run homer. That is when Muth entered and finished up to claim her fourth save of the year, striking out two more.
Anderson was 3-for-4 in the opener with three runs scored. She went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three more runs scored. Sam Ingersoll was 3-for-3 with four RBI in the nightcap.
West Chester rapped out 14 hits in the second game. Bowie State mustered just three hits in the two games combined.
West Chester travels to East Stroudsburg for a critical PSAC East softball doubleheader on Sunday.
