EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – West Chester University swept a PSAC East doubleheader from homestanding East Stroudsburg Sunday by virtue of its 12-5 win in the opener and 6-0 blanking in the nightcap at Zimbar Field.
West Chester (20-6, 5-1 PSAC East) takes over sole possession of first place in the Eastern Division standings with the sweep over East Stroudsburg (13-16, 3-3). The Golden Rams are one game up on second place Kutztown.
Erin MacNamee and Megan Harbaugh each smacked two-run home runs in the top of the fourth inning as West Chester doubled its run output en route to taking a 10-1 advantage. Brooke Muth added a RBI single later in the frame.
Muth (8-4) tossed a complete game in the opener, allowing five runs, three of them earned, on eight hits while striking out six. She walked a batter and hit a batter as well.
MacNamee was 4-for-5 in the first game with four runs scored. Evelyn Anderson knocked in four runs.
Harbaugh and Sam Ingersoll hit RBI singles and Katie Kmiecinski hit a sacrifice fly during a three-run third for the Golden Rams in the nightcap. Kmiecinski later added a RBI single in the fifth that increased the visitor’s lead to 4-0.
MacNamee, Anderson and Ingersoll each rapped out a pair of base hits in the second game. Ingersoll doubled home a run in the top of the seventh for her second RBI.
Missy Schwartz (5-0) threw a complete-game shutout in the nightcap. She allowed 10 hits and struck out three and walked three. East Stroudsburg’s best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the fifth when the Warriors loaded the bases with one out. However, Schwartz struck out the next two batters to end the threat.
West Chester is home for another PSAC East doubleheader on Tuesday against Millersville at 2:30 p.m.
