STARKVILLE, Miss. - West Chester University's softball squad is ranked 22nd in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 coaches' poll, which was released early Wednesday morning. It is believed to be the first time that the Golden Rams' softball team has appeared in the NFCA national poll.
West Chester (20-6) is off to its best start since the team began 21-6 two years ago en route to the program's first appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Golden Rams are currently in first place in the PSAC Eastern Division as they continue to work towards earning the school's first invitation to the conference postseason tournament.
For the fifth consecutive week, North Georgia sits atop the NFCA Division II Top 25 coaches' poll. The rest of the top five experienced quite a shakeup with two teams dropping out and two teams moving in. Valdosta St., went from fourth to second, while Midwestern St. jumped up four spots to move from seventh to third. Wayne St. (Mich.) moved from fifth to fourth this week and Alabama-Huntsville rounded out the first five spots by moving from sixth to fifth.
Kutztown dropped out of the Top 25 in this week's poll.
West Chester takes on Millersville (13-14) this afternoon in a PSAC East doubleheader on South Campus. First pitch for game one is set for 2:30 p.m.
