West Chester Tops Grand Valley State, 3-2

Box Score

CLERMONT, Fla. - Evelyn Anderson singled in the go-ahead run, and Stef Kerbacher raced around to score on an error to lead West Chester to a 3-2 victory over Grand Valley State Monday afternoon at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

West Chester (8-2) upped its win streak to five straight behind a stellar effort inside the circle from Brooke Muth. The junior transfer pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out two. She also scored the go-ahead run in Anderson's single in the second.

With the game knotted at one in the bottom of the second inning, Katie Kmiecinski led off with a single through the right side. After Sam Soprano popped out, Muth drew a walk and Kerbacher reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases when GVSU's shortstop committed an error. Missy Schwartz then hit a ball back to the pitcher, who threw home to cut down Kmiecinski at the plate for the second out of the inning.

Anderson then singled in the hole at short, scoring Muth. Kerbacher raced around to score on another error by Grand Valley's first baseman to make the score 3-1.

Grand Valley pitcher Katie Martin led off the third with a solo home run to center field. However, Muth retired all but three batters the rest of the way, allowing just one more hit, to pick up her third win of the season. Martin (3-1) suffered her first loss of the year for GVSU.

Megan Harbaugh singled home Anderson in the bottom of the first inning for West Chester's other run.

West Chester takes on Bentley College later this afternoon.
