Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.
– West Chester University took game one of a doubleheader from homestanding Shippensburg, 3-1, but fell in the nightcap, 4-3, on a windy and cold Friday afternoon.

West Chester (26-8, 9-3 PSAC East) falls into a tie for first place with Kutztown, who split with Millersville Friday. Shippensburg (13-21, 2-8) has now won six of its last eight after snapping a nine-game losing streak.

Sam Ingersoll smashed her team-leading ninth home run of the season in the sixth inning. But, Shippensburg’s Hope Cornell’s grand slam in the bottom of the fifth was all the Raiders needed to beat Missy Schwartz in the nightcap. Ingersoll also doubled in the first run of the game in the fourth inning.

In the opener, Muth (12-5) tossed a complete-game, scattering five hits over seven innings and allowing just one run in the fourth. She walked two and struck out three.

Schwartz hit a RBI single and Harbaugh hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to stake Muth to the early lead, 2-0. Shippensburg answered back with a run in the fourth. However, West Chester tacked on an unearned run in the sixth for insurance.

Anderson was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Ingersoll went 2-for-4 in the opener.

West Chester returns home on Saturday for Senior Day against Edinboro. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. After the doubleheader, fans are encouraged to head to Barnaby’s on High Street where 10 percent of your bill will go towards West Chester University softball.
