No. 3 Shippensburg Shuts Out Second-Ranked West Chester, 2-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Visiting Shippensburg scored twice in the first half and made that stand up the rest of the way during a 2-0 PSAC crossover win against homestanding West Chester Saturday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

No. 2 West Chester (8-2) saw its six-game winning streak come to a close as result of the loss to third-ranked Shippensburg (10-2). The Golden Rams squandered 10 opportunities on penalty corners in the loss.

The Raiders’ Kristina Taylor opened the scoring eight minutes in when she re-directed a beautiful pass from Katie Shoop into the cage while standing on the far post. Bre White doubled the visitors’ lead 11 minutes later when she finished off a perfectly executed 2-on-1 with Shoop collecting the assist one more time.

Ship’s goalkeeper Ciarra Delost took it from there. She was credited with seven saves on the afternoon and kept West Chester off the scoreboard for the first time this season. West Chester goalkeeper Kristin Arnold made six saves in the contest with all of them coming in the second half.

Despite failing to score in the second half, Shippensburg held a decided 9-3 advantage in shots over the final 35 minutes. The Raiders showed a slim margin in shots for the game, 13-10.

West Chester travels to Kutztown next Wednesday afternoon for another showdown between a pair of nationally ranked opponents.
