CHEYNEY, Pa. – Allison Hostetter scored 17 points and Alex Lennon grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots to lead West Chester University to a lopsided 97-45 victory on the road over cross-town rival Cheyney University inside Cope Hall Wednesday night.
West Chester (20-5, 11-2 PSAC East) won its seventh straight contest and remains in second place in the conference standings one game behind Bloomsburg. Cheyney (6-19, 2-11) was swept in the season series against the Golden Rams.
West Chester will host Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House with an opportunity to claim a share of the regular-season crown with the Huskies. Bloomsburg has clinched the top seed in the East as they hold the tie-breaker over West Chester should the two end tied atop the standings.
Kutztown has clinched the fourth seed in the playoffs and will travel to Bloomsburg on Tuesday, March 1 in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament next week. All that is left is to determine who will be the No. 2 and 3 seeds. West Chester and Millersville will meet in the other PSAC quarterfinal in the East. Where that game will be played is yet to be determined.
Millersville holds the tie-breaker over West Chester. So, if the Rams and Marauders end the regular-season tied for second, then Millersville will earn the second seed and host West Chester. Millersville travels to Kutztown for the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon.
West Chester held Cheyney to just 23.8 percent shooting from the field (15 of 63) and outrebounded the Wolves by a wide 56-28 margin to take command of the game early and bring home another road win. The Golden Rams shot 50.8 percent (31 of 51) and drained 87.5 percent (28-for-32) of their free throws.
Megan Stewart scored 13 points, and Carly Strickland added 10 as West Chester put three players in double figures and got all 15 players in the game.
Chrystalee Lynch notched a team-best 12 points for Cheyney, and Nadirah Brown added 10.
