WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Senior guard Megan Stewart scored her 1,000th career point as host West Chester University downed visiting rival Cheyney University, 88-43, in a PSAC East women’s basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House Wednesday evening.
West Chester (14-5, 5-2 PSAC East) kept pace in the league standings while Cheyney (5-14, 1-6) dropped its second game in the last three days.
Stewart, who set the school record for career steals earlier in the year and became just the second player in school history to record 400 career assists, joined another elite group by becoming the 15th player at WCU to reach 1,000 career points.
She finished with 13 points in the game and dished out nine assists. Alex Lennon blocked six shots for the Golden Rams. Mary Kate Serratelli led West Chester with 14 points, marking the third straight game in which the senior co-captain has put up at least 14 points.
Cheyney’s Nadirah Brown scored 14 points and grabbed 15 boards, including 10 off the offensive glass. Christalee Lynch added 11 points. However, the Wolves committed 32 turnovers and shot just 18.8 percent from the field (12 of 64) in the contest.
Zona Smith scored a season-high 11 points off the bench for the Golden Rams.
West Chester returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip scheduled for Hollinger Field House.
