Softball Sweeps A Pair Down South To End Trip On High Note

Northern St. Box Score
Saint Rose Box Score

CLERMONT, Fla.
– West Chester University’s softball squad ended its southern spring trip with a pair of wins Friday morning, topping Northern State, 1-0, and Saint Rose, 5-2, at the National Training Complex in Clermont, Fla.

West Chester (6-7) ended a three-game losing streak with the pair of wins.

Devon Utterback (3-2) pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout in the opener, leading West Chester to a narrow 1-0 win over Northern State. Erin MacNamee hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning that supplied the only run of the ballgame. But, that was all Utterback would need inside the circle.

In the nightcap, Kim Murl (3-4) picked up the win inside the circle. MacNamee finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one stolen base. Abby Block was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and a run scored.

West Chester will open its home slate on Wednesday with a non-league doubleheader against Holy Family University beginning at 2:30 p.m.
