WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Abby Block hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Devon Utterback struck out 10 batters to help West Chester to a split of its PSAC East doubleheader with No. 25 Kutztown on Sunday afternoon.
West Chester (20-14, 5-5 PSAC East) remained one game back of Kutztown (30-7, 5-3) in a battle for second place in the Eastern Divsion.
Utterback (10-3) scattered seven hits over seven innings and allowed just one run to pick up the victory in the first game of the doubleheader. Trailing 1-0, Block hit her third home run of the season in the sixth inning that proved to be the game-winning blast.
Jillian Murray was 2-for-3 in the opener. She was on base, along with Jessica Schuck, when Block launched her game-winner.
Erin MacNamee and J.P. Norris were each 2-for-4 in the nightcap. Kim Murl (10-8) suffered the loss in the second game. She lasted three innings, yielding two runs on four hits, before giving way to Utterback.
Trailing, 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth, West Chester scored a pair of runs to draw within striking distance, but could get no closer.
